When the group split-up after the airport adventure, Paulie and Melissa headed off together into the city. They had traded back guns, so that Paulie had his Magnum and Melissa the shotgun. However, after five minutes of walking down the street and blasting infected heads, they ran into a dilemma.
Where to go.
Melissa vouched for the hospital, which was to the east. Paulie vouched for the hotel, which was to the west. The two bickered for a few minutes over the pros and cons of each, the argument gradually becoming heated. They might have gotten violent had they suddenly not realized something.
They'd been standing in front of the apartments the whole time. So they decided to make a compromise and search the apartments instead, even though it was likely crawling with infected.
Kill all Chicago bitches, right?
"Ladies first," Melissa muttered as she stepped through the front, double doors of the apartment building. The interior was dark, so she quickly turned on the light on her shotgun. It didn't illuminate much, but it was better than nothing. Judging by what was left of the furnishings and the large front desk, this was the lobby. There were only a few infected hanging around here, facing the walls or sitting on the floor.
Melissa motioned for Paulie to take them out with his Magnum, seeing as her shotgun would be way overkill. As she waited for him to clear the room, she looked around a bit with her light. The room looked pretty empty of anything valuable, until... "Jackpot! Aw, man. I'm loving this place already," Melissa whispered blissfully, as if she'd found the cure. However, with just a glance, one could easily see that her gun light was trained on a nearby pack of Marlboro cigarettes.
