“JESUS H. CHRIST FRANCIS!”
Out of the large closet stumbled a man, bloodied and misshapen. Although he was already a large man (Though not as big as his brother), he was broader and thicker than an above-average man. His skin was greying and taking on a rough, leathery appearence. But it was his arms and face that caught the eye.
His face, bloodied and mashed. It looked as if he had been slamming it against a wall, his nose broken, his head flattened. His arms......
While not completely changed, his left arm was nearly shriveled, and his right arm was large, rocky, and certainly Charger-like.
But you could still tell he was human. Some of his hair was still left, if sparse, and his eyes were still their brown color. On top of that, he was stumbling about, as if he was not used to walking. Clinging to the door frame to steady himself, he looked upon them.
To others, he was more of an abomination than an actual Charger. But to Dahlia, it was her Uncle.
"Uncle Norman!"
The poor man looked in the direction of her voice, squinting a bit.
"Dahlia? That......Tha' you kid?" His voice was certainly messed up, horse and his words sounded strained.
"F---cckkkk.......Kid, what-whatAREYOUDOINGHERE?" He screamed/sputtered the last part out, not intentionaly though.
"Why aren't you with.....With-MASON? He ain't......Dead is he?"
Flinching slightly at his random yelling, she regained herself and walked up to him.
"Daddys still alive.....I think.... But when we were getting out of the city, the car crashed and I had to run. Then I ran into them," She geastured to the three behind her. "....And we've been going around since then!"
Something then struck her. "Uncle Norman, why are you here? I thought you weren't..."
"I-WASN'T!" He suddenly interrupted, backing away. "Kid, don't...Don't come near me....."
Slightly confused, she did the exact opposite, walking towards him, which prompted him to back up more.
"Uncle Norman? You're not happy to see me-"
She was cut off by Norman's larger arm suddenly wrapping around her and pulling her into a very strange looking hug.
"S-SHIT-KID..... Yeah, I'm always HAPPY-TO-SEE-YOU....." He let go and gently pushed her away. "I just don't wanna..... Hurt you..."
Looking up at the other three, a strange, deformed grin appearing on his face.
"Listen, you.... YOU-THREE..." He started digging in his pockets, which was a bit of a challenge since his hand was so big. "I has a little..... A little prop-prop-PROPOSITION! Scratch my back, I....."
He abruptly stopped and started slamming his face into the wall, random gibberish coming out of his mouth.
"MAGNUM CLIP! You have one? I need ONE!" He started pulling something out once he stopped slamming his face. "There's a bunch-a......Bunch-a doors up ahead, all locked and alarmed...... Gonna need......A little SOMETHING!"
He finally pulled out a I.D. card. "Gonna need this to...... To unlock the doors and turn off the alarms..... Unless you WANNA-FIGHT-THEDAMNHORDES!"

Rae had been about to comment on Luigi's rather...unique phrase when a large mangled man came into view.
Just by the way he looked and carried himself she knew he was close to loosing his grasp on humanity. His speech was strange, a bit hard to understand when he began his random yells and abuse himself.
It wasn't going to be much longer until he was all gone.
Dahlia didn't seem aware of this. She was too young and innocent to understand what was taking place before their very eyes.
And it killed Rae on the inside to know that Dahlia's heart was to be crushed once more.

Finishing another round of gibberish and slamming his head against the wall, which should be noted as being covered in blood and dented from his self-abuse. A small of trail of blood and saliva was running down from his mouth.
"NO-MAGNUM? F-fine....FINE! Spare a gun? A MOLOTOV? PIPE BOMB? ANYTHING?!?!"
He descended into another screaming fit, complete with more head slamming. Which abruptly was interrupted by him..... Growling.
This didn't last long, however, as Dahlia's voice brought him back, for however long.
"Un-uncle Norman? Why are you growling at us?"
Shaking his head, he propped himself against the wall, shaking.
"I-I-I'm not sure how much.......LONGER I CAN...... HOLD ON! Please, for the LOVE OF GOD! ANYTHING!?!? I... AM NOT-LETTING-ANYONE-SHOOT-ME-LIKE-AN-ANIMAL!"
He paused, growling softly before smashing his face again.
"I'm gonna.....DO-IT-MYSELF....."
"Do what Uncle Norman?"
The man looked down at her, his gaze softening, proof that he still had some trace of humanity.
"Gonna....Gonna.....Shit......I'm gonna beat the sickness, that's what.......Yeah...."

“How does she not see it, Zo?” whispered Luigi to the former college student.
He hadn’t taken his bright blue eyes off “Uncle Norman” ever since he had opened the closet. The two survivors hung back as far away as possible, but still within sight of Dahlia and Rae. Luigi was frustrated, but somewhat sympathetic towards the situation. His frustration was aimed at Dahlia for not realizing her uncle was going to change into a charger any minute now, but his sympathy was aimed at both relatives for he had shared something similar.
Zoey glanced over at him. “She’s only a little girl, Luigi,” she spoke softly. “And that’s her uncle. She’s still going to see him as her uncle even if he is about to change.”
But when Uncle Norman began growling at them did Luigi instinctively spring into action. The teenager nudged Dahlia behind him and pointed his magnum at the man’s face. Zoey was at the ready with her hunting rifle aimed perfectly at the man’s forehead.
“Do anything funny and you’ll be gluing yourself back together in hell!” snarled Luigi as his finger itched to pull the trigger. He knew he couldn’t kill Dahlia’s uncle right in front of her.
“And if he doesn’t kill you, I will!” Zoey added, voice threatening.

Rae wasn't the least bit surprised when Luigi and Zoey jumped into action. She herself had her combat shotgun ready, but not pointing at the changing man.
Standing beside Luigi, the teenage girl made sure to stay close to Dahlia. There was no telling what the young girl would do in reaction to their guns at her uncle's face.
"Don't do anything stupid or reckless," Rae breathed so that only Luigi could hear. "Don't do anything unless it's called for. Think of Dahlia. She's had too much heartache already."
Her gray eyes were trained on Dahlia's uncle, waiting for any sign of danger. She tensed at any movement he made.
Rae couldn't help but think of her own uncle.

Guns pointed at him, Norman did the last thing anyone may have expected.
He laughed. Outright laughed.
"Hehe......You kids got guts....... GOOD!" Flashing another strange smile, he held out the ID to Dahlia.
"Take it kid. I've got something else in mind."
The child took the card, not taking her eyes off of her uncle.
"Dahlia, you ever shot a gun?"
"No......"
"You ever killed one of these screamin' pshycos?"
"Y-yes.......One..."
"Good, one's a.........A GOOD START!"
He looked up at the other three.
"I want'cha to.......... give the girl a gun." He looked at Dahlia. "Dahlia........... shoot me. RIGHT NOW!"
Dahlia was immediatly taken aback. Why?
"W-what!?"
"You heard me, kid. Shoot me, in the head, right now. You gotta do it."
"B-but I-"
"LISTEN!" He shouted, "YOU CANNOT JUST STAND THERE AND BLUBBER, HEAR ME? THERE'S A TIME AND PLACE FOR IT, AN IT AIN'T NOW!"
Calming down, he gazed at her once more. "I know this is hard, you're only nine, lost, seperated from Mason......"
The nine year old only sniffled.
"....But now is the time to buck up, shut up, and pull a trigger. They give you a gun, I'ma give a crash course on USING IT! CAUSE I AIN'T LETTING ANYONE ELSE DO IT!"
The nine-year old shook all over, trying to think of something to say. But Luigi's words in the safe room came to mind.
"I-I'm not useless....."
"THEN YOU WILL SHOOT ME! I DO NOT WANT TA' BE ONE-OF-THEM-CREEPS!"
Dahlia was quiet for a moment, head hung low. She finally spoke up however, over Uncle Norman's heavy breathing.
"......Can I borrow one of you guns?"

"......Can I borrow one of you guns?"
Rae had frozen as those words had left Dahlia's lips. She bit her bottom lip and shut her eyes.
Dahlia shouldn't be forced to do something like this. She was only a nine year old child. A child her age should be more preoccupied with drawings, stuffed animals, games, etc, not with killing her very own uncle.
But what if I have to do something like that? Rae thought silently. I may have to kill my uncle in the future...
Sighing, she opened her eyes.
"Dahlia," Rae said softly. "I'll help you."
She set down her combat shotgun and second pistol, last pistol in hand. Kneeling down behind Dahlia, she took the little girl's hands and positioned them on the pistol with her own larger hands covering them.
Rae aimed the gun right between Dahlia's uncle's eyes. A quick and painless death would be best.
"Alright Dahlia," she breathed in the girl's ear. "It'd be best if you closed your eyes. Whenever you're ready, just pull the trigger."

Dahlia was grateful that Rae had gotten down to help. She wasn't sure she could do it on her own. Even Uncle Norman approved, nodding slowly.
"Yeah..... Like that, between THE EYES! POW! HAHA!"
His voice was becoming increasingly desperate, as if he knew that he would turn soon.
"L-look at it this way; This is how I'm paying for..... FOR MY CRIMES!"
He began yelling random gibberish again, ending with another low growl.
"Do it Dahlia! Do it". He began yelling even louder, "DO IT DO IT DO IT DOITDOITDOIT AAAGGGGHHHHH!". With that final scream he began snarling and writhing around, his eyes changing to the blood red of an infected.
"KILL MEEEE!"
*Bang!*
Norman's eye burst open, the shot having been a bit off. However, with a soft moan, he fell to the ground, unmoving, blood pouring out of the wound.
However, the gun was released, and the nine-year old threw herself at her uncle's corpse.
"I-I-I'm sorry!". She wailed, clinging onto his rough, leathery skin. "You weren't a monster! Not a monster, not a monster.....". Her words dissolved into gasps, trying to stop 'blubbering'.
"You never did a-anything wrong...... You were always nice....."
She remembered the times when he would babysit her when Mommy and Daddy were out..... The times he would tell her stories about places he'd been...... When she would visit him in jail, even the other mean looking people were nice to her....... Although there was that one creepy guy who had grabbed her...... But Uncle Norman was there to save her....... The yo-yo incident.... Making pizza "Chicago style"......
"Y-You w-were my superhero......"

“Okay, so far we got one threat out of the way, now we just need to get rid of two more.” Luigi spoke as he pocketed his magnum. “Let’s get a move on before they find us first.”
Zoey chuckled. “Never knew you took up the role of being Bill.” she laughed.
Scratching the back of his head, Luigi turned back to her. “Yeah…I’ve been hanging out with him too much.” he confessed nonchalantly.
The two began heading off down the hall, talking about the good old times with Bill, Francis, Mario, and Louis. They knew Rae would handle Dahlia so none of them attempted to offer comfort for the nine-year-old girl. Infected loomed ahead, quickly killed by Zoey and Luigi. They stumbled upon two bottles of pain pills and pocketed them, followed by a pipe bomb and another molotov.
“This place is crawling with items!” boasted Luigi as he spied another pipe bomb. “If it weren’t for that smoker and hunter trying to kill us I might consider staying out here.”
Zoey brought up a finger to tap against her chin. “Maybe we can escape by heading for the rooftop. You know, like when were at Mercy Hospital?” she told him.
He nodded. “Yeah except this time there won’t be a helicopter waiting for us.” he said. “But whatever it takes to get to that evac station you said was near here I’m up for it.”
“And once we get out of here we can focus on finding Bill, Francis, and Louis.” Zoey added.
They nodded, not really caring if Rae or Dahlia had heard their plans. The two should by now realize that Luigi was going to leave them as soon as they got out the hospital. Looks like they’ll be going back to the Director, Paulie, and Missi short a survivor.

Rae was quick to take Dahlia into her arms and pull her close. She rocked, trying to provide what little comfort she could. Her cheek laid on Dahlia's head, feeling the little girl's trembles.
"You did the right thing Dahlia," she murmured to the sobbing girl. "You did a good thing. He didn't want to be sick like the others, and now he won't be because you saved him. He's much better off in heaven with your mom, watching over you with her."
Rae pulled away slightly to whip away Dahlia's tears with her thumbs. "You're a brave little girl, Dahlia. You know that? It takes a lot of guts to come as far as you have, and not a lot of people have it. But you do. I know because I've seen it, and I'm proud of you, as is your mom, uncle, and your dad once we find him. So hold on just a little bit longer, 'kay?"
Giving the girl a soft smile, Rae helped the girl to her feet. It was then that she noticed that Luigi and Zoey had went on ahead without them, not even bothering to wait on them.
Frowning deeply, she gathered her weapons, took Dahlia's hand, and followed them at a fast pace, but slow enough for Dahlia to keep up.
As they grew closer, she caught a bit of their conversation, bit that she didn't like.
Rae forced herself to keep from tightening her fists, not wanting to crush Dahlia's much smaller hand.
So, they planned to just ditch them, did they? Without a care in the world? So that's how it was. They didn't care about either Rae or Dahlia, just about themselves. They didn't even care about the sake of a little nine year old girl.
And that just made Rae sick.
Barring her teeth, Rae snatched up a pipe bomb Luigi had been inspecting. She pocketed it and turned to him and Zoey with a strangely calm look. Calm enough to let anybody know that she was close to being irate.
"So," she addressed them. "I think it's passed time for us to go our separate ways. It was never meant to last this long, but it's over now. I can see the two of you want to go off on your own. Fine. Dahlia and I won't cross paths with you in this lifetime."
She turned her back to them and crossed her arms. A chuckle escaped her. "It's funny. My uncle always said to 'Not trust anyone, and always look out for number one'. And I guess he was right." She sent Luigi and Zoey a glare over her shoulder. "And that's just what I'm gonna do."
"Don't bother crying to me for help. It's obvious that you won't need it and don't want it."
With that said, Rae turned and began to walk away.

Dahlia loved Rae, plain and simple. Luigi had crushed her, but Rae filled in the holes. And again, she was right about heaven. But all the sypmpathy in the world, all the hugging, would not shake the gloom that had settled over the child. She followed closely behind Rae, keeping a tight grip on her hand.
When they caught up to the other two, the anger in her sister figure was obvious. The way she held herself, her calm voice.....
"I think it's passed time for us to go our separate ways. It was never meant to last this long, but it's over now. I can see the two of you want to go off on your own. Fine. Dahlia and I won't cross paths with you in this lifetime."
"Don't bother crying to me for help. It's obvious that you won't need it and don't want it."
And with that, Dahlia was lead away by Rae, and she only looked back once, feeling bittersweet. But at least she was with Rae, and now they'd be getting out of this scary hospital! Leave behind all of the frights, her dead Uncle, her sick mother......
Go back to everyone else..... Missi, Paulie, even Mr. Director. The irony? She preferred his subtle meaness to Luigi's outright yelling.
Following closely behind Rae, she looked up at her, the child's expression surprisingly mellow.
Deciding to try and lighten Rae's mood, she decided to ask some something about her as they walked down the hallway, thankfully devoid of sick people.
"Whats.....What's your Uncle Nick like?"

Robert nodded his agreement to the plan. Much as his killer instinct wanted to see some blood spill, a nagging voice told him that if he went about things wrong, it’d be his blood painting the walls.
He gave his teammate a moment to rush off to do the searching-whatever she was up to (he hadn’t listened that carefully) before hopping off for his own task. First things first, he needed a decoy. Since the survivors had gone off to concentrate on some poor madman (guy looked mere minutes away from a Charger), he had free roam of the room packed with the dead. Of all the corpses there, at least one had to have a gold necklace on it.
Lady Luck smiled on the teen’s search: It only took about a half-minute of neck-searches to find a woman with a golden necklace, and with a heart-outline charm, too! He smirked as he fumbled with the clasp. Jackpot. It took longer to unhook the damn thing than it had to find it, but it was worth it to tuck the beautiful trap-to-be in his pocket.
Just as he was straightening up and wondering what the moron-group had gotten themselves caught up in, a gunshot echoed through the spacious room. With the sharp reflexes that came with being a Hunter, he dove to the side then leapt into the air duct again, waiting a moment. When he realized that he could only hear crying, not angry screaming at an opponent escaped, he scrabbled through the duct to a vent where he could observe.
The Smoker’s little girl was getting all emotional over the would’ve-been Charger, and that was about all Robert noticed before scooting away from the window and sitting back until opportunity knocked. He might have been a tough-guy and a jerk, but even he didn’t like seeing a little girl cry and sob. You’d need a rock for a heart to enjoy watching little kids weep.
Fortunately, the kid was tougher than most others; she stopped crying after a little bit. Two rock-hearted jerks (Smoker’s kid and the college girl) were already walking ahead and leaving the other girls behind. Robert would have laughed aloud if it wouldn’t have given him away; these stooges made it too easy! Better yet, when the two girls caught up, the teen’s prey said they were gonna pull a Scooby-Doo and split up in a deserted building with monsters on the loose.
Hardly containing his excitement, he crawled down the vent, following the two girls down the hall. Being the kind and considerate person he was, he gave them some time to walk further from their teammates’ hearing range before making his move.
The teen waited just a moment after the little girl’s question before setting himself up by an exit and pouncing straight out, shoving the metal plate out of his way. He ended up with another one of his ‘better’ pounces, tackling his prey (the teen girl) from the front and promptly pinning her to the ground.
Self-confident as usual, he gave the girl a malevolent grin before digging in.

"Whats.....What's your Uncle Nick like?"
Rae had been dumbstruck by the younger girl's question, but relaxed and looked down at her kindly. Maybe a little conversation would help Dahlia forget about their current situation for just a few moments...
"Well..." she began thoughtfully. "I didn't have good parents like you do Dahlia. When I was born they gave me up to my..." Rae swallowed the lump in her throat. "...Aunt Olivia. She raised me, and was my mother in my life."
"My Uncle Nick, on the other hand, he was my father figure. He didn't live with my Aunt Olivia and I. He drifted a lot, and got into trouble with the cops sometimes. He may seem cold, uncaring, and sarcastic, but he really cares about the people he loves. Whenever we needed him, he always came to us. He always came to see us on special occasions, or sometimes just to come by for a surprise visit."
Rae laughed softly. "My Aunt Olivia always said that he and I were a lot alike. Other than the fact that we had the same gray eyes and pale skin, she said that we were both hot tempered and easy to anger. I guess that's why Luigi didn't really care for me..."
She shook her head, riding her mind of the teenage boy. "He also taught me how to defend myself. He always said, 'Don't trust nobody, and always look out for number one'. Sure, it may sound selfish, but-"
Rae paused as she heard a small muffled sound.
"Dahlia, did you hear-?"
She was cut off as she was thrust down onto her back, the wind being knocked out of her for the second time that day. Sharp, knife-like claws began tearing at her abdomen fiercely.
Forcing her eyes open, Rae saw a face that had never made her feel such a strong sense of anger in her life before.
"You." she hissed before punching the hunter straight in the face, hearing a satisfying crack. "WHERE THE FUCK IS MY LOCKET YOU SON OF A BITCH?!"
Grabbing the hunter's hood, Rae pulled his head closer and slammed her fist back into his face.
"I asked you a question you fuck! WHERE IS MY LOCKET!?"

Having finished her barracading, and satisfied that it would take some serious power to get through, she crawled back into the vent and back towards where she left Robert.
The noises she heard were not in any way good. She could smell his adrenaline, fresh blood...... The girl yelling at him, clearly not in the state of panic one would normally be in.
Passing the boy and older girl, she found the Hunter...... Being beat up by the young girl. Rather dissapointing.
However, the odds of the Hunter being shot were high if the girl was able to punch him, and she still needed his services. Creeping to the vent he had probably sprang out of, she aimed he tounge at him and launched it. It quickly wrapped around him and pulled him away from the threat and into the vent. Wasting no time, she pulled him through the vent and out of sight, leaving the two youths.
I though I told you to wait for me to get back! Besides, if the other two heard the noise, odds are they'd rush to her aid! Two on one! Would you survive? No.
Releasing him, She took a less scolding tone.
Besides, if we take out the other two, it'll be much easier. Here is my proposal; I will snag the older girl, drag her into this vent, we can drag her away to the room I've prepared, and you'll be able to tear at her undisturbed.
Turning away, she looked down from the vent, watching the boy and girl. She needed an opportunity.......
When I grab her and get her in here, help me move her through the shafts. If I can't get her in here, pounce the boy. And make sure to avoid his legs. He's quite the kicker.
Quietly removing the vent grating, she aimed for the girl, making sure She wouldn't be an easy target. And then....
With the familier Smoker screech, She launched her tounges at the college girl, wrapping her up good and tight. With a sharp tug, she lifted the girl off the ground, swinging her around a bit. She then procceded to pull her up, trying to get her into the vent.
It was then she realized that her tounge was caught on a jagged edge. If she kept pulling on it, it would sever the tounge. So, she settled for constricting the girl, figuring that the Hunter probably wouldn't mind having his prey a little softened up.
Geth fe boyth! Was her only instruction.

Bright blue eyes rolled in exasperation, Luigi let them go. He wasn’t going to waste his breath yelling at her. He merely shrugged and blew off Rae’s anger. But Zoey looked concerned. Before the college girl could utter a word to the retreating girls, she suddenly found herself wrapped in a tight grip by multiple tongues. Smoker mom has struck again.
“Help!” she cried as mom began dragging her towards a nearby vent. “Smoker mom’s got me!”
The words made Luigi whip around to face the tangled Zoey and Dahlia’s infected mother. He was fearful that smoker mom would drag his object of affection into the vent and he would never see her again. Luckily smoker mom’s tongue was caught on a sharp edge and the female special infected simply relied on constricting Zoey. Not a good idea, especially when Luigi caught sight of a useful object.
“Let her go you son of a bitch!” he snarled, lashing out his hand that gripped tightly around the handle of a combat knife.
He grinned sadistically as the knife cleanly cut through the tongue and a splotch of blood flew out. Zoey was dropped with a startled gasp. The college girl blinked as Luigi ran off for a second before reappearing with Dahlia thrown over his shoulder and with his hand around Rae’s wrist.
“Time to go!” screeched Luigi as he shot past. Zoey wasted no time in getting to her feet and racing after him, not forgetting to pick up her hunting rifle as she went.
